Unlike a fixed welding robot with a limited working radius, a gantry welding system allows the welding unit to travel across an extended working area. Multiple linear, rotary and positioning axes can be coordinated to reach weld seams located at different heights, angles and positions.

A gantry-type multi-axis welding machine is an automated welding system in which the welding head or robot is mounted on an elevated bridge structure.
The gantry provides one or more linear travel axes, allowing the welding unit to move along the length, width or height of the workpiece. Additional robot, rotary or workpiece-positioning axes can be integrated to create a coordinated multi-axis welding system.
